Hyannisport, one of the earliest golf courses on Cape Cod, founded in 1897 as the Hyannis Port Golf Club. The first “course” consisted of six holes and was located on the port side of the marsh. In 1902 desirous of a more formal nine-hole course, the club chose Alexander Findlay, a well-known Scottish golf professional and architect. The second seminal event regarding Hyannisport’s course design occurred in 1913 when Donald Ross laid out the 18 hole layout and later in 1936 updated his design to the current layout. The Club has an interesting history and maybe the only course to have been “touched” by three “Fathers of American Golf”…..John Reid, Alex Findlay, and Donald Ross. At Hyannisport, the Ocean can be seen from every hole in contrast to some more sequestered Cape courses.
Hyannisport’s 495 members average about 25,000 rounds the last two years. Prior to the pandemic the club hosted around 20,000 rounds a year. Hyannisport is steeped in history and tradition including an active caddie program and robust tournament schedule. The club hosts two amateur invitationals each year “The Seagulls Four- Ball & The Cape Cod Amateur.
This year marks the 125th Anniversary of the club and we are looking for an energetic, motivated, professional to join the Hyannisport Club family. Candidates should expect to be in the position actively seeking their own Head Professional position within 3 to 4 years.
