I try to theme all mixed and ladies events, not so much for the men’s MG. We have done western theme and brought in horses and other animals to be by the practice facility till they tee off. Breakfast at Tiffany’s was a huge hit. They have many options to dress up. We have used 50’s-80’s decades.
Our most popular event is called switch hitters. Couples get paired at random and the husband from one couple gets paired with the wife of the second couple and same goes for the other husband and wife. We have played alternate shot and/or best ball. The couples enjoy it and there are often some pretty funny stories that get told during the cocktail hour that follows play.
Being in Bourbon Country, we theme our men’s invitational around the bourbon industry. Our ladies invitational has a different theme each year and the ladies decorate their golf cars to go along with the theme.
We have found themes to be a bit tacky… might just be our demographic but we have moved away from them. Food and beverage may theme a family night meal or a function by the pool, but golf events are all about the golf.
Southwestern or Western seem to be the most popular themed events.
Sunday 9-hole twilights: Caribbean, pirates of Seawane, masters, off Broadway/theater
Ladies – Alice in Wonderland, Bella Italia, It’s a Pool Party, Flower Power, Mixed – Charleston, Deep in the Heart of Texas, Chicago “My Kind Of Town”
Sorry, don’t do themes. Golf only
Mixed – Swinging with the StarsLadies – Bubbles and Bogies, Pop Swing Into Spring, Swinging in the Rain or Shine
Ladies Member Guest – Monopoly and Passport to the World. No Men’s themes Mixed – night light golf
