I was due to have an intern start this week but with so many staff having been furloughed i was unable to start. As soon as restrictions start to be lifted and more services come online i am hoping to be given permission to start her
We have 1 Seasonal Assistant and 1 intern that are currently working. Our Outside Services staff is made up of all retired individuals. We are able to have their hours reduced as the Professional staff pick up a lot of the responsibilities such as starting, assisting with cart sanitization, assisting with driving range operation and Golf Shop coverage. The Golf Shop is currently closed, however, we are answering a lot of phone calls, emails, and have an online Golf Shop that we created. So we need the staff and are able to do it with the younger individuals.
At this time we are hiring all seasonal assistants & interns as usual. We are going ahead for the summer with a full staff expecting to be just as busy as we expected.
Our 3rd assistant(seasonal)started May 1st. His original start date was March 24th. Our PGM intern will start on his scheduled start date of May 15th. We began playing here in the state on May 1st with many state mandated restrictions. Despite the restrictions, members are excited to be playing and are coming out to play in good numbers. The number of players justify having 2 seasonal staff members now on the clock. Conversely we’ve cut hours of our hourly golf ops staff.
Keeping my staff as intended. Watching hours and having them help in the outside ops as well. Doing what we can to keep our commitment to the assistants, while managing labor costs.
We delayed start dates on returning assistant professional staff. We released a newly hired assistant professional after the pandemic began. We also released our interns so they could find new positions in back in March. We are will be operating this season with half the staff from last year and have done everything possible to keep last years employees employed by releasing any 2020 new hire.
Bringing them on and putting them to work, hours may be less and jobs may be different but they are committed to the industry and we need to commit to them.
